His father, Jacob Minton, wasborn February 26, 1796, and was in early life a wagon maker. He married MissPhiletta Willison, also a native of New Jersy, born September 27, 1798 and in1834, the moved to Ohio, traveling part of the way by water. They stopped for ashort time at Fort Miami and then after a few months at the old missionarystation on the banks of the Maumee river, twenty miles above Toledo, theysettled upon land in Plain township, Wood county, where they established theirhome in the clearing. They were both members of the Presbyterian Church ofMorristown, N.J. (Rev. Albert Barnes, pastor) but after coming west they unitedwith the Plain Congregational Church, of which they remained throughout life, faithful and active members. Before the war issues arose, Mr. Minton, Sr. was aWhig and then became a Republican and later joined the Prohibition Party. Later he studied for one year in the academyat Castalian Springs, Tenn. On October 23, 1850, he married Miss Sallie S.Woodbury who was born in Falmouth, Mass., December 15, 1832. Their sevenchildren are all living. Benjamin H. is a photographer at Bellevue, HuronCounty; he married Miss Eliza Clark.
